MODEL
Downtown Streets Team empowers our homeless population through a work-first model. DST coordinates the efforts of government officials, law enforcement, local businesses and volunteers to provide job opportunities and one-on-one assistance to the homeless. We provide the bridge to full-time employment while beautifying the downtown area and providing low-cost janitorial and maintenance services to the community.
How it works

First, candidates must display commitment to joining the team by attending weekly meetings held at the community center. They will be put on the wait list and must continuously attend meetings until a position opens. This gives them the opportunity to learn about the program and associate with team members.
Once there is an opening, candidates are interviewed, oriented and given an assignment
to work for 20 hours a week. In exchange, they are rewarded at the weekly meeting with food
gift cards, arrangements for housing and phone cards.

After 30 days, participants are given our job-seeking packet and will attend our job-seeking workshops where they will construct a resume, conduct mock interviews, complete amaster job application and ultimately, find permanent employment.
