How to Help

There are many ways that individuals and corporations can help Downtown Streets Team:

  1. Donate Online: By clicking on this link, you can quickly make a donation using your credit card.  We always have more people who want jobs than we have funds to support positions.  DST is a non-profit 501(c)3 corporation; all donations are tax-deductible.  Here are the costs:

    1. $6,000 pays one additional DST team position for a year
$3,000 pays for one addtional DST team position for six months
$1,000 pays for two additional DST team position for one month
$500 pays for one additional DST team position for one month
$100 buys the food vouchers for one team member for one week
Any amount will help us keep the program going.

If you prefer to mail a check, it can be sent to:
    Downtown Streets, Inc.
    542 High Street
    Palo Alto, CA  94301

  2. Services: We have a very tight budget and business services and supplies, such as paper, printing services, professional services, or special services that we could use as special awards for team members (a dinner gift certificate, massage certificate, bus passes, etc.) are always welcome.  Please use the Jobs and Service Posting form to let us know of your offer.
  3. Mentoring, Training, and Workshops: We have an ongoing need for mentors for our team members that are transitioning from the program to the work force.  This takes only 1
or 2 hours per month and usually includes phone support for the folks that are not sure how to solve everyday problems that come up on the job.

We would love to teach team members more skills, especially in work areas that are new for us.  An excellent way to do that is a 1-2 hour workshop.  If you have skills in the area of gardening, graffiti removal, grounds maintenance, cleaning or retail sales and would be willing to teach a workshop, please contact us through the Jobs and Service Posting form.

We have an opening for a volunteer to help teach Job Search Skills for 2 hours per week.  This person will be trained and given all the materials they need to teach these skills and can train under our current Job Search Skills expert who is not 82 years old and would
like to retire soon from his second career.  He has written a book that will serve as a guide.  Please use the Jobs and Service Posting form to indicate your interest.
  4. Hire DST: Consider hiring the team to do odd jobs around your business or community.  We have many skills on our team.  Experience includes:
    • Yard Work
    • Event Set-Up and Clean-Up
    • Gardening
    • Moving
    • Trash Removal
    • Window Washing
Use our Jobs and Service Posting form to describe your job and when you'd like it to be completed.  Please be sure to include how long you think the job will take and the amount you'd be willing to pay, either hourly or for the entire job.
